We celebrate the lengthening of the day. Even though snow may still cover the ground, the seeds have begun to turn within the earth. This is the feast of Brigid, Celtic goddess of smithcraft, poetry, healing.

Some ways to observe Imbolc: 

Dress your altar in white or light blue to represent the snow and cold. Decorate it with a statue of Brigid or Brigid’s cross if you have one. A bowl of earth can represent seeds turning within the ground. A pitcher of milk can represent the milk of new life. Set a bowl of ice or snow on the altar and watch it melt as the ritual unfolds. Set an “ice candle” in the center of the altar and allow it to melt.

• Bless the earth for future planting.

• Make Brigid’s crosses.

• Recite poetry.

• Consecrate your ritual tools and jewelry.
